Eternal Questions

What should I do to gain eternal life? Will I reach heaven?  What will happen to the rich?  These are eternal questions people keep asking again and again.  Today’s Gospel gives us some answers to these questions.

Follow me

Jesus said to the rich: “Come and follow me.”  We can follow Jesus in many ways.  What Jesus told the one need not be the ideal for the other.  If everybody were to renounce everything, land, factory, office, house, etc., the whole of life will break down.  We should rather listen to the Word of God and ask ourselves: “Lord, what should I do to inherit eternal life?’ And the reply will always be: “Come and follow me.”  At the same time no following of Jesus is possible without renunciation.  It is true that he who amasses his “treasure” on this earth will have no “treasure” on in heaven, “treasure” that cannot be destroyed by moths and rust.

We must rather have the feeling that everything comes from God. (1 Cor. 15:10) It is the way of God, not our own ways that lead to true happiness.  The case of the young man in the Gospel is a good lesson for us.

A continual looking forward to the eternal word is not a form of escapism or wishful  thinking, but one of the things a Christian is meant to do.  It does not mean that we are to leave the present world as it is.  If you read history, you will find that the Christians who did the most for the present world were just those who thought most of the next.                           (C.S. Lewis)

Give thanks frequently to God for all the benefits he has conferred on you, that you may be worthy to receive more. (St. Louis IX of France)

Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival.  Traditionally it is a time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude to God.

Happy Thanksgiving Day.

Let us appreciate the power of the Holy Rosary in the daily practice of our faith.

Vocation –

If we really believe in something, it does not seem to be a sacrifice to give up everything else to pursue that new dream.  Jesus asks the same as any great leader… total dedication; but He promises rewards no one else can promise: “You will have treasure in Heaven, then come, follow Me.” Come, follow the call of Christ as a priest, sister, brother or deacon. If you feel God is calling you to a Church vocation,   call Fr. Liborio 416-968-0997

Society for the Propagation of the Faith

The society for the Propagation of the Faith was founded in France in 1822 by a young laywoman, Pauline Marie Jaricot.  The story of her life is one of prayer and sacrifice for the missions.

From the humble beginnings in Lyons, France it has spread to 115 countries and supports more than 1000 dioceses or territories.  No mission church exists today which has not been helped by the Society and its partners.

In May 1922 it was transferred to Rome and granted the title “Pontifical”. The Society is the Pope’s official “missionary arm”.
